Port Newark, NJ — Donjon Marine Co., LLC (“Donjon Marine”), as part of the Donjon-SMIT Salvage & Marine Firefighting (SMFF) response team, joined members of the Baltimore County Fire Department at Port Newark, New Jersey, for hands-on marine firefighting exercises focused on equipment familiarization, water delivery, and coordinated response operations.

“Exercises like these are about more than moving water,” stated Donjon Marine Assistant Salvage Master Robyn Bianchi. “They build the relationships and interoperability between salvage and marine firefighting personnel and municipal first responders that become critical during a real marine casualty.”

Marine firefighting is a key element in Donjon-SMIT’s emergency response capability. Donjon-SMIT and its Strategic Response Partners (SRPs) excel in the specialized art of marine firefighting, with highly trained, experienced firefighting teams fully equipped to extinguish shipboard fires swiftly and safely. Marine firefighting tactics are carefully tailored to minimize damage to the vessel and the marine environment. Marine firefighting training is conducted in compliance with all international standards and ensures that firefighting methods incorporate the latest technologies and best practices.

Marine firefighting exercises train responders to manage high-risk, confined-space emergencies aboard vessels, piers, port facilities, marinas, and offshore platforms.

The OPA-90 exercises included Deputy Chief of Marine Firefighting Operations Michael Oder from Industrial Emergency Services (IES), a trusted supporter of Donjon-SMIT.

Reflecting on the reason for the exercises, Robyn said, “When the call comes in, there is no substitute for having trained together, understanding each other’s capabilities, and knowing how to operate as one team. [It was a] great day on the waterfront training alongside some outstanding professionals.”

Train together.
Respond together.
