Roosevelt Island, NY – Donjon Marine Co., LLC (“Donjon Marine”) tug Casey Ann responded to a barge that ran aground on New York’s East River early Friday morning, October 2nd, on the western shore of Roosevelt Island.
According to accounts from the scene, a tug push-towing two barges lost steering in the East River. Donjon Marine was notified around 2 a.m. and sent their 4,750 horsepower tug Casey Ann to initially tow the disabled tug to Erie Basin. The Casey Ann then returned to Roosevelt Island and waited until around 11 a.m. for the incoming tide to refloat the barges, which were then towed to Erie Basin.
“Most important, we are relieved that there were no casualties,” said Donjon CEO John A. Witte, Jr. He added, “As shown by our quick response to this grounding, Donjon is always ready to address any marine-related incident immediately, professionally, and safely.”
